CREATIVITY
Am all alone in my room and am thinking, at some point I realized every second, minute, hour, day and event leaves a lingering memory or lesson in your heart which is why I decided to constantly pen down my every day lessons (maybe not every day but at least every now and then), using this page as a medium to share, and create a learning opportunity for others. So I say a big welcome to you all, let’s ride on this journey together and make the best of our time and days.
Today I asked myself, hey Tomi, what if you want or need something you can’t afford, what is the way out, same question goes to all the readers.
For me I figured two ways out which includes asking, hustling for the money or i get creative, but i choose to be creative and i say to you be creative, improvise, make something out of nothing, sometimes I want a skirt and I have a gown or I just imagine the dress as a skirt, I don’t need to go get another material or something, I can just turn that into a skirt, not permanently but for that moment.
Life is about going after what you want... And when what you want is not available, what about making it available with your own idea or skill? Creative minds are celebrated every day, everywhere, it is a skill we all have, celebrate yourself, make it work for you, at least to give you that moment of pleasure and contentment. It will even help you know your strength as to your passion. Keep trying; keep playing with something until you get exactly what you want. Like the Yoruba’s will say, “ogbon o kin tan laye, ka wa lo sorun” (you can’t run out of ideas and run to heaven.
This reminds me of the days I use to paint my face every time, because I just wanted to be able to do my own make up without paying so much for it. Today am happy with the result, I can do my own make up satisfactorily (not on my wedding day though) and am still learning.
I was going for a wedding and the colour was orange and cream, as the young graduate that I am, I decided to just go for the gele (plus I found myself amongst bridal party again, couldn’t say no to the bride, and that special feeling you get when you know the bride personally got my yes) and make do with the orange wrapper I had. I was left with finding the right top. Searching through my wardrobe, I found a gold bolero a friend of mine gave me when I was graduating in 2012, guess what I did, I took it to the tailor, instructed her to close it up turning it to a crop top.
On Sunday, I needed to cover my hair (as omo pastor nah), but dint want a scarf or those mummy pastors Hat, then I remember I had gone for a friend’s wedding and I was on the train as usual, (lol) and we had this wine and champagne fascinator which was just appropriate for my champagne dress and red shoes. (Smiles)
The truth is, those things you actually have them somewhere in your wardrobe even if it’s not the same it will be close. It’s all about adding, removing.
You want the hot red lips when you don’t have or can’t afford ruby woo, mix different hot reds together and you sure will get what you desire, Make do with what you have.
Don’t spend the money you don’t have, be comfortable in your own skin, create your own style, be you, and be creative.
Create or improvise with something today, if you cannot afford getting a new one, and if you can, do it for fun.
